A poor man goes to church every day, praying before the statue of a great saint,

"Dear saint, please, please, please... give me the grace to win the lottery." 

This goes on for months.

Finally, the statue comes to life, looks down at the man and says,

"My son, please, please, please... buy a ticket."

You cannot win a game you’re not playing.
